Tragedy binds you with others who have experienced tragedy.

It is almost as though when a person experiences tragedy they suddenly find themselves in a “club” of people who have also walked a heart-wrenching path of catastrophic loss.  It is a club no one ever wants to be a part of, but once you discover you’re in it, you realize what a gift it is to have others around you who do not just sympathize, but rather empathize with your pain.

I think of one such couple in our lives who have experienced tremendous loss and reached out to us…I visited them at the hospital tonight as their lives took another turn.

I feel unexplainably bound to them.
