SYMPTOMS OF KRABBE DISEASE

Children with Krabbe disease usually appear healthy at birth.  Symptoms commonly begin between the ages of 3-6 months but the disease-course is different for each child.

Symptoms of Early/Late-Infantile Krabbe often include:

  • Changes in Muscle Tone
    • From Floppy to Rigid
  • Feeding Difficulties
  • Crying & Irritability
  • Sensitivity to Loud Sounds
  • Severe Seizures
  • Unexplained Fevers
  • Fisting
    • Hand Closes Around Thumb
  • Vision Loss

 

Symptoms in Later-Onset Krabbe often include:

  • Changes in Gait (walking difficulties)
  • Swallowing Issues
  • Irritability
  • Loss of Body & Head Control
  • Vision Impairment
  • Rigid Muscles
  • Seizures
