Throughout the ages, humanity has faced uncertainty—unpredictability in life that can cause anxiety and despair. Our futures are unknown and our paths unsure.
Yet, it seems we are especially facing great uncertainty in the current economic, political, and environmental climate of the developed world. Not only do we have the instabilities that come with our own personal unidentified journeys into the future, but we have a collective concern for increasing societal woes. We feel the shifting sand beneath our feet. It is disconcerting and confusing. We want permanence like a rock…unmovable, steady, firm.
Every night when I go to bed, no matter how difficult my day, I know with certainty that the sun will rise in the morning. Darkness will be consumed by light with the breaking of dawn. The brightest of stars will appear in the east. The sun is constant. It is sure. I can bank on its presence, whether rain or fog, blue skies or gray, knowing it is definitive each and every day.
Like the sun shining in the firmament, so is the Son of Righteousness, the Light of the world. He is constant. He is sure. I can bank on his presence, whether rain or fog, blue skies or gray, knowing he is definitive each and every day.
Every night when I go to bed, no matter how difficult my day, I know with certainty the Son has risen. Darkness will be consumed by Light. The Brightest of Stars will appear in the east. As I feel all the insecurities of this life and the unpredictable nature of our chaotic and ever-changing world, I cling to the blessed hope and promise of the Son, for he is as sure as the sun.
